From Catquest to CARE
Christin Burford and another partner started Catquest Enterprises in 1992 for the specific purpose of developing educational programming in a show type format. Catquest acquired it's first Florida Panther for their school education program along with several other smaller animals shortly after their formation. The show and education format gained popularity and the number of animals grew as well as the diversity of the various programs.
Catquest needed autonomy to focus on their educational program development and severed all ties with other members not specifically interested in the company's new direction. Further concerned about being affiliated with just show programming, Catquest began the process of relocating to find a better environment for strictly conservation education. After several moves, Catquest finally settled into their current location and in 1996, cut all previous entertainment affiliations, and obtained a U.S. Federal Education Organization 501(c)3 IRS tax exempt status as The CARE Foundation.
